ARC Music Studio, Hamburg, Germany. 40 Most Popular American Folk Songs.

The term American folk music encompasses numerous music genres, variously known as traditional music, traditional folk music, contemporary folk music, or roots music. Many traditional songs have been sung within the same family or folk group for generations, and sometimes trace back to such origins as Great Britain, Europe, or Africa all the music that fits between the cracks.

The abundant folk music of Japan may be classified under several major headings, religious songs, work songs, ballads, children’s songs, and dancing songs sung at festivals. This album introduces the listener to all of these different styles, featuring the singing of temples monks, coastal villagers, and city geishas. Also on display is the variety of musical instruments including the samisen, the bamboo flute, and others. RELATED LESSON PLAN "SORAN BUSHI: Exploring Japanese Work Song(Hokkaido & Kitaki, Japan)".

Folk songs are an important part of our culture. They are often very enjoyable to hear and can transmit facts and ideas to listeners. Traditional folk songs generally come from a culture that no longer exists, but they are still interesting. Most members of The Irish Rovers have Irish ancestry, but the group was established in Canada. Today, the word "Early" in the Drunken Sailor phrase Early in the morning is generally pronounced er-lie, as in the performance above. This may not have been the original custom, however.

Folk Songs will be released on June 9, 2017. For more than 40 years, San Francisco's Kronos Quartet-David Harrington and John Sherba (violins), Hank Dutt (viola), and Sunny Yang (cello)-has combined a spirit of fearless exploration with a commitment to continually re-imagine the string quartet experience. The album was Grammy nominated, and Giddens received the BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for Singer of the Year. Giddens, who studied opera at Oberlin, made her acting debut with a recurring role on the CMT television drama Nashville this season. Earlier this year she won the Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Bluegrass and Banjo. Giddens' second solo album, Freedom Highway, was released in February 2017 to critical acclaim: Pitchfork said, "Giddens has emerged as a peerless voice of roots-minded music as a solo artist on her new album.

There are some for which I have no clue as to a date, so some may appear randomly placed. If you have an educated correction, please let me know. Also, be advised that for the early ballads, the century may not be the date the tune AND words were known.
