About The Five Stairsteps: Though fans of the Jackson 5 or the Staple Singers would love arguing the claim of the title, the Five Stairsteps recorded some solid Windy City soul during the late ‘60s and early '70s, just a small step below the level of the Chi-Lites or the Impressions (whose Curtis Mayfield signed the group to his Windy. Because of "O-o-h Child," a million-seller, this is probably the Five Stairsteps' best-selling album, but it's definitely not their most satisfying. The group attempted to expand their fan base by including a couple of Lennon & McCartney selections and appearing like a '70s psychedelic gang on the album cover. One of the songs is entitled "Vice the Lights" - I have no idea what that means

A landmark album of sweet soul, recorded by this youthful group that included a 13 year old Kenny Burke! The kids were brought together by their parents Clarence and Betty Burke, but it was Curtis Mayfield who really gave them a push – as he discovered them, produced them, and wrote some excellent songs for them during their best early years. A sparkling debut by the offspring of Clarence Burke and Mama Stairstep. The Stairsteps are four brothers and one sister, all between the ages of 13 and 17: Clarence J. Aloha, James, Dennis, and Kenneth Burke. Curtis Mayfield produced the set and highlighted their unique and arresting bloodline harmonies. Clarence was only 16 when he cut Come Back, abut he sings (or cries) it like he has experienced the agonizing pain of losing someone dear first-hand.

Was it recorded this way, or just the mastering?. Either way, I can't really recommend this, at least for high-fidelity audio systems. Excellent harmony is in every song you hear from the Five Stairsteps even when I saw them in person at the Uptown theater in Philadelphia they gave a real good show. I loved all their songs written mostly by the late Curtis Mayfield. I am enjoyed singing along with their songs in my car as I drive. All of the songs from that album were on it plus a few extra.

Stairsteps (aka Five Stairsteps) Buddah Buddah (label) Soul (CD, LP). A really heady set from The Five Stairsteps – a record that shows the group looking older (and tougher!) on the cover, and one that also shows some maturity in their sound too! We're not sure what was in the water at the time, but these guys definitely seem to be drinking in a bit of the trippier elements of their generation – from their hippie look on the cover, to the overall mix of material, which includes a few surprising Beatles covers too! . The very first album from Michael Henderson – but a set that already finds him very much at the top of his game – thanks to previous work with Miles Davis and Norman Connors! Both artists gave Henderson a chance to do different things with his music, and by the time of this record,. LP, Vinyl record album.
