Vheissu (pronounced "vee-sue") is the fourth studio album by American rock band Thrice. Released on October 18, 2005 through Island Records, the album spawned one charting single, "Image of the Invisible", which peaked at No. 24 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart. The album has endured the test of time and is now commonly seen as Thrice's greatest album and one of the greatest post-hardcore albums ever made.
Vheissu is a milestone album for Thrice, released October 17, 2005. At the time, Thrice was still with Island Records. Previous to this album, Thrice’s sound was a mixture of hardcore and punk. The band had just toured for a year and half for The Artist in the Ambulance, which was written and recorded on a tight deadline, and was ready for a change. The album’s title Vheissu comes from a place name in Thomas Pynchon’s novel, V. Dustin Kensrue interpreted it to be a term having to do with identity, even printing the German sound-alike phrase Wie heisst du? in the album art. Vheissu Q&A. Producers Steve Osborne. Writers Dustin Kensrue.
The album’s complexity and denseness all prove that Thrice has the most potential of any band in the world right now, a band that can change the landscape of everything known about modern rock music. Immersing into Vheissu takes a completely focused yet still open mind because there is so much to appreciate. Luckily, Thrice is willing to break the listener in easily. Image of the Invisible picks up where Thrice left off with Artist in the Ambulance.

I've been working on a record collection and this was one I need to have. The gold foil on the album really pops and looks wonderful. Vheissu signals the shift Thrice had is their music creation. No longer focusing on the punk/post hardcore sound of their prior albums-albums that I still love-Thrice adds a greater musical range that pushes the boundaries of what they are capable of creating. Vheissu was a launching point that has propelled Thrice into a new category of music.
