The Time is the 1981 debut album by The Time. The album proper was produced and arranged by Prince (using the moniker Jamie Starr) The Time produced three singles: "Get It Up", "Cool" and "Girl", with the first two charting within the top ten on the R&B charts. Cool" was covered by Snoop Dogg for his ninth album, Ego Trippin'.
The Time, also known as Morris Day and the Time and The Original 7ven, is an American musical group that was formed in Minneapolis in 1981. Their work has been a part of the formation of the Minneapolis sound, featuring a mix of soul music and dance music with funk, rock n roll, and more.

Morris Day burst onto the public scene with the group's self-titled album, The Time, which included "Get It Up," "Cool," and "Girl. Soon after the world was introduced the prolific Minneapolis music marvel, the group went on to record three more albums, including What Time Is It? (featuring the hits "777-9311," "Wild and Loose," "Walk," and "Gigolos Get Lonely Too") and Ice Cream Castle, (which included the hit "Jungle Love")

As many of you know, many Minneapolis era funk fans have been waiting on the edge of their seat since the announcement of a new album from Morris Day and The Time back at The 50th Grammy awards years ago. And we whet your appetite when we went one on one with Jesse Johnson and he confirmed that the album is finished and awaiting release. Well, we now have the details on the album release date including your opportunity to see them perform some of the material.
It's the only album showcasing Morris Day that has failed to go gold. Pandemonium" underscored the point. That 1990 Time reunion album, overseen by Prince, recaptured some of the old heat and sold almost 800,000 copies. Yet Day says he was the most reluctant of the original Time to reenlist. I refused the project a few times. I really felt like there was more ground I wanted to break personally before I started thinking about looking back. Can it happen again for Morris Day? Karen Jones, a Warner Bros. black-music executive who worked closely with him on the new album, says, "It takes a while when you leave a group to find your niche as a solo artist. Morris Day's new album, "It's About Time," is worth your money. However, there are some problems that need to be discussed. Firstly, only 4 tracks are new-the rest being live renditions of some of Day and the Time's best material. This Isn't a bad thing, as all of the live material is excellent. Two inexplicable and regrettable alterations to the live tracks include muting of expletives(even the benign "ass" is removed) and the muting of crowd noise. The live stuff still rocks, though. Only two of the new songs are above average: "Ain't a Damn.
