In 1990 Lycia signed to Projekt Records. Projekt's interest was based on the earlier released Wake (on Orphanage Records) as well as numerous rough demos. But just prior to the official signing Lycia memeber John Fair left the band to join an established band as a touring member. Lycia's plans were abruptly changed and Mike VanPortfleet moved the band in a completely new, and at times much more aggressive direction.

Lycia is an American dark wave band formed in 1988 in Tempe, Arizona. The main personnel of the band are Mike VanPortfleet, Tara Vanflower and David Galas. Although only achieving minor cult success, the band is notable for being one of the ground breaking groups in darkwave and ethereal wave styles.

Lycia is a darkwave atmospheric band that was formed in 1988. The current lineup is Mike VanPortfleet, David Galas, Tara Vanflower and John Fair. Will Welch was an early member of the band. Lycia has released 11 full length studio albums (including one under the Bleak name), 1 live album, 2 compilation albums, 3 EPs, 1 split 7 single and appeared on over 50 VA compilations.
