But it's the Uhl that is the revelation to me, having struggled through some of Uhl's etudes as a clarinet student. I was completely unprepared for the musical energy and freshness of the Kleines Konzert, and was bowled over by the incredible solo and ensemble playing.

Max Bruch (6 January 1838 – 2 October 1920) was a German Romantic composer, teacher, and conductor who wrote over 200 works, including three violin concertos, the first of which has become a staple of the violin repertory. Max Bruch was born in 1838 in Cologne to Wilhelmine (née Almenräder), a singer, and August Carl Friedrich Bruch, a lawyer who became vice president of the Cologne police. Max had a sister, Mathilde ("Till").
