Help! is The Beatles' fifth studio album and the soundtrack to their second feature length film. The 14-track record includes 10 Lennon-McCartney numbers, 2 from George, and 2 covers ( Act Naturally and Dizzy Miss Lizzy ) – a steady improvement from the cover-padded Beatles For Sale. Starting with the title song, the album offers moments of compositional and lyrically foreshadowing into a much more sophisticated and adventurous musical territory, which the group immediately began exploring with Rubber Soul

Help! is the fifth studio album by English rock band The Beatles. Produced by George Martin, it serves as a soundtrack to the band's film of the same name, and contains fourteen songs in its original British release.

The striking album front cover features The Beatles making semaphore signals but these do not spell Help! The album went immediately to n. in the British charts remaining there for a total of nine of its 37 weeks in the Top Twenty. Yet again in the US, things were different. Another soundtrack album was released which contained all the songs from side one of the UK album plus six instrumental pieces scored by Ken Thorne. It resulted in another US 1 album, which enjoyed a nine week stay during an overall chart run of 42 weeks.

Considering that Help! functions as the Beatles' fifth album and as the soundtrack to their second film - while filming, they continued to release non-LP singles on a regular basis - it's not entirely surprising that it still has some of the weariness of Beatles for Sale. Again, they pad the album with covers, but the Bakersfield bounce of "Act Naturally" adds new flavor (along with an ideal showcase for Ringo's amiable vocals) and "Dizzy Miss Lizzy" gives John an opportunity to flex his rock & roll muscle.

Listen free to The Beatles – Help! (Help!, The Night Before and more). Help! is the fifth UK album and tenth . album by The Beatles, and the soundtrack album from their film of the same name. Produced by George Martin for EMI's Parlophone Records, the album (in its original British form) contains seven songs that appeared in the film Help! (including the singles "Help!" and "Ticket to Ride"), and seven that did not. In 2003, the album was ranked number 332 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

The Beatles' fifth official UK album release, Help! was the soundtrack to the group's second feature film. It contained 14 songs: 10 by Lennon-McCartney, two more by George Harrison, and a further two cover versions. Eventually the title Help! was settled on and, as for A Hard Day's Night previously, John Lennon rose to the challenge of composing the theme song.

Notes

Capitol target label with Capitol "C" logo but does not have white background within the "C".

This label design & variation was used for Beatles' Capitol releases spring 1969-late 1970.
Capitol eventually added white to the C logo for better resolution after Jan 1971.

AUDIOPHILE NOTE:
The version here of "Help" is the single version, which has a totally different vocal take than the album version.

Pressed at Capitol's Los Angeles factory as identified by a ✲ in the run-outs.

For the variation with the added white print: The Beatles - Help!

Notes

First pressing. August 6, 1965. Black label with yellow logo and silver print. “The Gramophone Co. Ltd.” printed at the start perimeter print and “Sold in U.K. subject…” text. Capitol print. Tracing-paper-lined “Use Emitex” die-cut inner sleeve. With or without KT tax code on the label.

Variation A. The original 1st labels used a Sans-Serif font and the * credit indicator for “I Need You” was placed to the right of the song title with a space between: I Need You *.

Variant B (this one): Other of the original labels used a thick font and the same * credit indicator for “I Need You” was placed to the right of the song title with a space between: I Need You *. In addition, the laqueur numbers (XEX.549 & XEX.550) shifted relative to date on the both sides.

Variation C. Side 1 is practically the same as in variation 1A but the titles of “Girl” on track 5 and 6 are now aligned directly above each other. Side 2 has a few more differences in the tracklist layout. Most noticeably, the second line now begins with BIEM instead of NCB; and “Yesterday” now no longer begins on its own line. The layout in general is neater with the space being used a little more efficiently.

Only the A Side of this album is from the film soundtrack.
