The King Kong Compilation: The Historic Reggae Recordings. One of several successful Chinese-Jamaican producers, Leslie Kong cut important sides during the ska, rocksteady, and early-reggae years up until his premature death in 1971. Working out of Beverley's, the restaurant/record shop he and his brothers owned, Kong came to prominence in the early and mid-'60s cutting hits for Jimmy Cliff, Desmond Dekker, and the Maytals, among many others. His early-reggae output circa 1970, though, represents some of his best work, and this Mango compilation brings together 16 highlights from that stretch.

Va-King Kong Compilation Format: Vinyl. Originally released in 1981 this disc is a fine collection of early reggae. Kong put reggae on the international scene producing the Maytals "Do The Reggay"(sic). Although that song is not featured here there others by the Maytals. For reggae aficionados no introduction is need, but nonetheless Toots, the lead singer is featured on all Maytals tracks.

The original King Kong is extremely crude. I don't mean it's not wonderful. It was remarkable for its time, but it was a very small back-lot picture. According to King Kong: The History of a Movie Icon, director John Guillermin, known to have had outbursts from time to time on the set, got into a public shouting match with executive producer Federico De Laurentiis (son of producer Dino De Laurentiis). After the incident, Dino De Laurentiis was reported to have threatened to fire Guillermin if he did not start treating the cast and crew better. According to the Internet Movie Database, seven different masks were created by Carlo Rambaldi, and molded by Rick Baker to convey various emotions. Separate masks were necessary as there were too many cables and mechanics required for all the expressions to fit in one single mask.

King Kong soundtrack from 2005, composed by James Newton Howard. Released by Decca Records in 2005 (B0005715-02) containing music from King Kong (2005). The album opens the same way the movie starts - the art-deco opening titles of the film are displayed over the mysterious Skull Island Theme. Once the main title for King Kong appears, we hear the ape's motif - four brash low descending chords. The film starts out in 1933 New York City, where movie producer/director Carl Denham (Jack Black) is about to lose his funding. He has a map to an island that is rumored to have prehistoric creatures on it, and he plans on shooting his film there. Howard makes good use of the orchestra, bouncing motifs between various sections. Last Blank Space on the Map" is where the pounding action begins. As the ship approaches Skull Island, it almost crashes into a wall, hidden by the fog bank.
