Víctor Lidio Jara Martínez (Spanish pronunciation: ; 28 September 1932 – 16 September 1973) was a Chilean teacher, theater director, poet, singer-songwriter and political activist tortured and killed during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. He developed Chilean theater by directing a broad array of works, ranging from locally produced plays to world classics, as well as the experimental work of playwrights such as Ann Jellicoe.

This song is by Víctor Jara and appears on the compilation album Antología Musical (2001).

Victor Jara had been tortured and killed by the Chilean government long before I first heard his songs about everyday life and his fearless advocating for the rights of individuals in the face of powerful, murderous dictatorships. This is a beautiful collection of traditional songs and sad stories about the impact of greater forces in our lives. This is the best way to understand the profound social importance and musical beauty of Victor Jara's songs. This album contains songs Victor wrote before & during the days of the Popular Unity government of President Salvador Allende (1970-1973). Each song documents the struggles of peasants and working people; including love songs, lullabies and celebrations of nature. Victor Jara was a visionary and a communist. He was jailed, tortured and then killed by the facist military dictatorship that toppled Allende's ed government in September, 1973.

Beardana Beardana
A very, very good anthology. Very much complete than others older compilations of his works, added some new live versions of some old classics, helpfull, with many inlays and pictures, as well almost all the hits from this big "cantor"... this great songwriter and icon of the revolution and the militant 70s. A very good one dopple cd also.
