The Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett Story is a 2001 television documentary produced by Otmoor Productions for BBC Two's Omnibus series and originally called Syd Barrett: Crazy Diamond (in the US, a slightly modified version aired as Pink Floyd & Syd Barrett in the VH1 Legends series in January 2002).

Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" Classic Album is the creative story behind the masterpiece: "Dark Side Of The Moon". Prior to 1973, Pink Floyd maintained a relentless gigging schedule and by the time they came to record "Dark Side Of The Moon" had already created many of the basic tracks  . This fascinating programme is set in a musical context with the music of Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd and The Pretty Things. Added to My Q. Show Information.

Featuring classic early Pink Floyd songs 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond', 'Interstellar Overdrive', 'Arnold Layne', 'See Emily Play', 'Bike' and more. Sound: Dolby ., DTS Digital Surround. According to rock lore, Pink Floyd saw Syd Barrett for the last time on June 5th, 1975, when the now bald and bloated 29-year-old dropped in on a recording session for the album Wish You Were Here. Remarkably, the band was in the midst of working on Shine On You Crazy Diamond – a track that paid tribute to their fallen musical leader. While certain elements of the story may be apocryphal (Nick Mason, for one, can’t confirm the precise song they were working on), the remarkable scenario is largely true. While it would be the last reunion for the five members of Pink Floyd, Roger Waters would.

Syd Barrett left Pink Floyd in 1968 when his increasingly erratic behaviour made his continued participation in the band impossible. After two extraordinary solo albums he disappeared from music altogether. The Pink Floyd & Syd Barrett Story tells the full bizarre, tragic but also celebratory story of Syd Barrett with contributions from all the members of Pink Floyd plus friends, managers and lovers. The late Syd Barrett was a major cult figure and rock music legend

In spite of this, this was still Syd Barrett’s Pink Floyd at its highest powers, culminating in the legendary Games for May concert at Queen Elizabeth Hall on May 12, 1967. An interview with Syd and Waters in May 1967 shows a witty and seemingly happy Syd, with just a beginning of slurred speech. Everything changed for the worse sometime in June (or July), when Syd was MIA for a complete weekend, never turning up for a television performance of See Emily Play on TOTP. In the words of Richard Wright, when they found him he was ‘’gone’’. His sparkling eyes had dimmed for good.
