Midnight Black Indulgence marks a watershed in Frivolous' career. For the first time, influences and inspirations are clearly discernible. Moments of pure dance ecstasy are followed by string interludes or appear next to Jazz ballads. The connections Frivolous makes are of a convincing, almost compelling logic. This album is everything but eclectic, Frivolous' extremely personal music is aimed at special moments and places. And although these tracks are never pompous or serve as a display for his musical prowess, there is something risky and luxurious about them.
Midnight Black Indulgence. Inconsistently weaving between kitschy electro-lounge and not-so-minimal house, Frivolous' new disc for Pole's ~Scape label seems as unsure of what it's trying to accomplish as we are of what to do with it. The opening pair of dancefloor tracks are skillful enough, if unexciting, but vocals detract in both cases especially the second's quickly tiresome seven-minute "why aren't you dancing" monologue. Late in the album, "Goodbye Regrets" manages to slide along as a solid exercise in oozing ambient techno, fleshed out with well-handled samples and synths, but the effect is wrecked shortly after by the insipid "You Gotta Sing", which is little more than an updated "When You're Happy and You Know It". Cat: SC 43 CD Released: 16 March, 2007 Genre: Minimal/Tech House. DJ-friendly full length tracks. What is Album Only? Some artists and labels prefer certain tracks to be purchased as part of an entire release.

Decadent and enchanting, Midnight Black Indulgence weaves a nocturnal narrative with chapters spanning the emotional and stylistic gamut. Gardner's virulent 4/4 tech-house minimalisms twist and bump on tracks like "Sooo Savey" and "Forget the Funk," but it's the sleek, scat-jazz allure of "The Long Way" and the opiate-like "Abandoned Earth" that indicate the depth of his mastery.
