Rodgers & Hart: American Musicals (1981) - Overture, Orchestra - I Could Write A. .
Rodgers and Hart were an American songwriting partnership between composer Richard Rodgers (1902–1979) and the lyricist Lorenz Hart (1895–1943). They worked together on 28 stage musicals and more than 500 songs from 1919 until Hart's death in 1943. Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart were introduced in 1919, when both attended Columbia University, when asked to write an amateur club show.

1) Pal Joey's real name is Joseph Longo. Soho was a short-lived New York collaboration between Pal Joey and Reynald "CFM" Deschamps. Soho recorded a few well-known dance-tracks-most notably-1989's Hot Music on Reynald's Kool Groove Records.
In 1940, Rodgers & Hart's musical PAL JOEY had its New York premiere on Christmas at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre, before moving to the Shubert Theatre and finally to the St. James. The show ran for 374 performances. In 1887 George Abbott was born, Broadway actor, writer, and producer. His musical collaborations included ON YOUR TOES, THE BOYS FROM SYRACUSE, ON THE TOWN, PAL JOEY, DAMN YANKEES, and FIORELLO!, for which he won the Pulitzer Prize in 1959. The musical is based on a character and situations O'Hara created in a series of short stories published in The New Yorker, which he later published in novel form. The title character, Joey Evans, is a manipulative small-time nightclub performer whose ambitions lead him into an affair with the wealthy, middle-aged and married Vera Simpson. It includes two songs that have become standards: "I Could Write a Book" and "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered"

Pianist André Previn, bassist Red Mitchell, and drummer Shelly Manne perform eight songs that debuted in the show Pal Joey. Best known is "I Could Write a Book," which quickly became a standard, but the other, more obscure songs such as "Take Him," "Zip," and "Do It the Hard Way" are also generally good devices for jazz improvising.
