Yet Harrison is in confident command, running through highlights from his recent triumphant All Things Must Pass album in fine voice, secure enough to revisit his Beatles legacy from Abbey Road and the White Album. Though overlooked at the time by impatient rock fans eager to hear the hits, Shankar's opening raga, "Bangla Dhun," is a masterwork on its own terms; the sitar virtuoso is in dazzling form even by his standards and, in retrospect, Shankar, Ali Akbar Khan, and Alla Rakha amount to an Indian supergroup themselves.

Joe from New York, NyI actually met George Harrison a few days after The Concert For Bangle Desh in August of 1971. That was at the Gramarcy Park Hotel on 23rd street and Lexington avenue in Manhattan,NYC. Leon Russell was "dating" my sister Boe and we 3 were staying at the hotel when one Saturday afternoon Leon asked Boe and I to please go out for a few hours so that he may have a meeting with George Harrison in the hotel room. So we agreed and off we walked BUT made sure NOT.

On 1st August 1971, the Concert For Bangladesh, organized by George Harrison to aid victims of famine and war in Bangladesh, took place at New York’s Madison Square Garden. The two concerts, one afternoon and one evening, played to over 40,000 people and featured the all-star cast of Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, Leon Russell, Billy Preston, Eric Clapton, Ravi Shankar, Klaus Voorman, and Badfinger. Harrison was well ahead of his time, organizing a large scale charity event with the aid of his musician mates, almost 15 years prior to Live Aid Harrison had to shell out his own money to maintain the fund after legal problems froze all proceeds. The triple album release (the second in a row by Harrison) hit N. in the UK and N. in the US and received the Grammy award for Album of the Year. 50, which was given to UNICEF to administer.
