For his first solo disc, Dave Davies came out swinging with the great AFL1-3603, titled after the record's catalog number and also as a slap at the bar coding that had begun to be put on nearly everything. This album rocks; from the opening "Where Did You Come From" right on through to "Run," there is a sense that Davies was out to prove that his brother Ray wasn't the only force in the Kinks

This is the very first Dave Davies solo album. I was surprised when I bought this and listened to it. Dave's voice is clear and strong, and he is actually a better singer than his Kinks brother Ray. There are some excellent songs in this set, and Dave proves that he can also write top notch tunes. This album showed that it was not only Ray that was born with talent in the Davies family, but Dave also received a healthy dose. He played all of the instruments on almost every song as well as the vocals, writing and producing the music on the album. From rockers like "Nothin' More To Lose" to ballad type songs like "Visionary Dreamer", his songwriting talent shines brightly.
