Live in Japan is a live double album by English musician George Harrison, released in July 1992. The album was recorded during his Japanese tour backed by Eric Clapton in December 1991, and it contains a selection of Harrison's hits as a solo artist alongside some of his best-known Beatles songs
George Harrison (1943–2001) was an English musician who gained international fame as the lead guitarist of the Beatles. With his songwriting contributions limited by the dominance of John Lennon and Paul McCartney, Harrison was the first member of the Beatles to release a solo album.
To lighten the mood a bit, Harrison asked Clapton to play on his new song. Clapton originally wasn't into the idea, saying, "Nobody ever plays on the Beatles' records. Clapton and Harrison also worked together on Preston's next album, 1970's Encouraging Words, which is a must-own for Harrison fans. COLD TURKEY Plastic Ono Band 1969 Eric, John and Ringo. It was awesome when we were doing 'Art of Dying' Eric on that wah-wah and it was all cooking-Derek and the Dominos with George Harrison," wrote Derek and the Dominos' Bobby Whitlock in his 2010 autobiography. The sessions actually led to the formation of Derek and the Dominos, whose original (pre-Duane Allman) lineup-Clapton, Whitlock, Carl Radle and Jim Gordon-all played on the track. His New York-based band, the Blue Meanies, has toured the world and elsewhere.
George Harrison, Ringo Starr and Eric Clapton were joined by an all-star . band, including Elton John, Phil Collins, Jeff Lynne, Ray Cooper an. ell, if you’re wondering who that understandably happy bassist is, it’s Mark King of Level 42. What’s most interesting about this performance is the fact that . the normally Strat-happy Clapton is playing a beautiful Gibson Les Paul, just as he did on the original 1968 recording, and . the also-Strat-happy Harrison joins Clapton in the extended guitar solo at the end of the song (He does not solo on the original studio version). Harrison, Star and Clapton also performed the song live in 1971 at the Concert for Bangladesh. Of course, for the closest thing to a full-on Beatles reunion, there’s nothing quite like the mid-Nineties footage of McCartney, Harrison and Starr hanging out together during the making of Anthology (bottom video).
Eric Clapton first met the famous Beatles in December 1964, at their holiday Christmas Show in London, England. Clapton and his band the, Yardbirds, played back-up act, supporting the iconic Beatles. The fab 4 band members promptly befriended Clapton; especially George Harrison, who eventually became his closest friend . Harrison answered, Look, it’s my song, and I want you to play on it. The song eventually appeared on the Beatles’ double album The Beatles, also known as The White Album. John Lennon couldn’t make it to that particular session.
In the Beatles' early days, George Harrison briefly billed himself as Carl Harrison in honor of his quick-picking hero. Perkins' bright, trebly style – which the rockabilly king picked up from blues players in Tennessee – defined the singles he put out on Sun Records ("Blue Suede Shoes," "Glad All Over") and influenced scores of players from Eric Clapton to John Fogerty. He may have spent much of his Guns n' Roses prime shirtless, drunk and surrounded by snakes, but Slash brought good taste and restraint back to hard-rock guitar. It was a stripped-down rock & roll sound compared to what everybody else was doing," says Slash. Clarence White helped shape two genres: His acoustic flatpicking, first displayed as a teenager when he and his brother formed the Kentucky Colonels band, was key in making the guitar a lead instrument in bluegrass.
